Process

  • I use Sidas vacuum casting: cushions are shaped to your feet, significantly the foot is held in the optimum position for the insole to be most effective. The Sidas system allows a range of different techniques to be used for an optimised end product.
  • A heater is used to warm the pre prepared base part of the insole, this is the foundation of the product, and the foot sits on this.
  • After the biomechanical assessment and a good look at the feet, a bare foot cast is taken, with the person in the optimised position. This is never the same for different people, and can often be varied between he left and right feet of the same person!
  • The heated base insole is then placed into the cast. Once cooled these are released and ready for fabrication
  • During the appointment slot the insole is built using layers of EVA foam that are different densities and thicknesses. This combination is usually only decided once I have met the person, and I have fully understood the different factors that are presented. Foot type, body weight, tolerance, activity level are some of the things that play a part in decision making.
  • The whole process can usually be completed within 1.5 hours, with some caveats. If you want more than one pair or have some fun but challenging biomechanics that needs a bit more time we may need to extend the appointment time or do it across 2 appointments – But don’t worry, this wont increase the cost.
  • Unlike over-the-phone or digital imaging insoles, this method requires you to be present to allow me to fully evaluate the unique biomechanics of the person, and to use the feet in situ to cast the mould. Without you we can’t make insoles.
  • Because of this, if a second pair is required a period of time after the first, I do need to see you again in person.
